The Dawn

A poem I wrote long ago.

People always say that things get better
But I prefer a different quote: It’s always
Darkest before the dawn. Because in life,
Things can get really bad, and you can feel
Like you’re in the darkest pit that exists.
Life isn’t always fair, and sometimes all you
Can do is stop, and stare. But this abyss doesn’t
Have to be the end of your story. All you have to
Do is pull the blade from your wrist, stop, and think.
Think to when you experienced true, uninhibited joy,
Think to that time when happiness seemed to radiate.
Now think, is that feeling worth giving up? Is that despair
So great that you can never experience that again? No, and
So you must fight the good fight, press onto victory, for when
You arrive there, your reward shall be more than you know.
